Accompaniment is one of the most important activities<\/strong> we carry out at the Nido del Colibr\u00ec<\/em>. It is fundamental because it has a major influence on the quality of life of the people we support and their confidence in the future.<\/p>\n

This week we made two different types of accompaniments.<\/p>\n

Sony<\/strong><\/span> arrived in Italy two months ago and despite being visibly affected by the violence he suffered in Libya<\/strong>, no one had yet taken him to a doctor<\/strong>, even though he lives in a reception centre. Seidu<\/strong><\/span>, on the other hand, had eye problems caused by welding at work without protection, and we also realised that his health insurance card had expired<\/strong>.
\nThe two guys didn’t know who to turn, also because health education for asylum seekers is sorely lacking, thus they called us and we were able to take them to the hospital, where they began their treatment.<\/p>\n

John<\/strong><\/span> arrived in Italy as unaccompanied minor, having fled Nigeria because he is gay<\/strong>. Nonetheless, no one let him to apply for asylum<\/strong>, and once he came of age, he was turned away from the reception centre and he had to live on the streets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, our paths crossed (after a boy we had already helped told him about us): although John is in Naples, thanks to the support we found there, we are able to help him from afar. And so, finally, this week he was accompanied to go through the recognition procedures to then apply for asylum!
\nLife on the street is very difficult and dangerous, but John no longer feels so alone and says he has found some hope, not least because – as he told us – he understood that we care for and love him.<\/p>\n
