According to data provided by the (governmental) <em>Centre for Human Rights<\/em> in Uzbekistan, <strong>in 2021 36 men have been convicted for \u201csodomy\u201d<\/strong>. Of these, 25 received a prison sentence. The number of arrests is increasing. According to the data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is the highest figure since 2016.<br \/>\nSometimes, depending on the family\u2019s financial means, a sentence can be avoided by paying a bribe to the police.<\/p>\n<p>There are reports of <strong>police torture and actions specifically targeting LGBT groups<\/strong>, and it could well be that corruption is the only reason why some police officers arrest homosexual people.<\/p>\n<p>An <a href=\"https:\/\/mediazona.ca\/article\/2022\/12\/23\/vne-zakona\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigation conducted by the Russian independent news website <em>Mediazona<\/em><\/a> shows how gay Uzbek men are thus already <strong>forced into semi-clandestinity<\/strong>, living through the dread of being subjected to the so-called <strong>\u201cconversion therapies\u201d<\/strong> by their families on one side and hiding their sexual orientation on the other.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32931\" style=\"width: 910px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32931\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-32931\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ilgrandecolibri.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/img1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ilgrandecolibri.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/img1.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.ilgrandecolibri.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/img1-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ilgrandecolibri.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/img1-768x466.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32931\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Illustration by \u041c\u0430\u0439\u043a\u043b \u0421\u043a\u0430\u0440\u043d \/ \u041c\u0435\u0434\u0438\u0430\u0437\u043e\u043d\u0430<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Uzbeki gay community too has its meeting and dating apps. However, on these chatrooms people often meet <strong>undercover police officers<\/strong>, or people who \u201csimply\u201d want to blackmail someone by outing them in an extremely conservative society.
