After years of forced stop, public demonstrations by the LGBT+ community are back, and a march through the streets of Piacenza was organized to celebrate the International Day Against Homo-Bi-Transphobia. Also Il Nido del Colibrì, that is based in the city, took part with a few of its people (unfortunately, many were working or had prior commitments).

For some, who have only been in Italy for a few months, this was their first time participating to this kind of events, and to some it has been a great challenge: in their experience LGBT visibility meant violence and torture, that they suffered in the past, and when the procession set off – when they understood better what it was all about – they were almost terrified of exposing themselves this openly. Thus, we had to spend quite a bit of time calming them down and staying close to them, until they started to walk with us.

They all made it to the end, and were finally much more relaxed and aware that the situation for LGBT+ people in Italy is different from what they had left behind, and that too was a small achievement.
